A
bus network for a city of 2 million people, consisting of 2000
vehicles and 200 roaming inspectors is being supported by 5 city
centre radio sites, monitored by 10 control rooms.
The buses utilise the network data capability to operate vehicle
location systems bases on the fare stages. The control room also
receives data from the ticket machines showing ticket sales as
well as money received.

Dispatcher terminals process short data messages (SDM) requesting
speech calls with the driver. An emergency foot switch connects
the vehicle via a live Microphone directly to the control room
where the situation may be monitored.
